Methods to Repair a Motorcycle Starter Motor

Sometimes the motorcycle starter motor often appears some problems after people ride several years, such as sputtering noises and stalling etc. And it probably appears delayed startup as well. So, it is necessary to learn some basic knowledge to repair motorcycle starter motor. And it helps you to maintain your motorcycle. After all, it is a skill.

No matter what skill you want to learn, firstly you should know its structure and basic working principle. In the motorcycle engine, the motorbike electrical starter is a DC motor. Usually it consists of two or more field coils which are also called pole coils. They are located inside of the external starter shell, and some people call it as the yoke. In some motorbikes, the pole soils have the function of magnets after energizing.

Working principle

The motorcycle DC motor drives the flywheel teeth to rotate, the flywheel drives the crankshaft of the gasoline engine, and the crankshaft drives the connecting rod, at the same time, the connecting rod drives the piston to reciprocate in the engine cylinder. The piston compresses the air in the cylinder and the mixed gas of atomized gasoline provided by the carburetor. At the end of the compression, the spark plug in the cylinder head ignites, and the cylinder gas burns to generate pressure to push the piston back, and the piston drives a series of components. Of course, the movement relies on the inertia of the flywheel to move again and again. Then the motorbike fly wheel rotates and drives the motorbike gear in gearbox to rotate.

How to repair?

First of all, you should check the motorcycle electric battery. Usually the problem is the battery when your motorcycle cannot start properly. You check if the battery has been full charged or the battery is damaged or it is in bad condition. If the motorbike lithium battery works well, next you may check the solenoid.

Generally speaking, if the solenoid is corroded, it will make clicking noise. That also causes your motorbike cannot start up. Here we teach you a simple way to check the solenoid. Join a thick jumper cable from the battery to the starter firstly, and then check if it has any reaction. If not, it shows that the starter possibly doesn’t work. If yes, the problem probably is that the solenoid does not click properly.

Of course, there are other reasons to cause start-up problem, such as the motorcycle starter button has been worn out, the wire problem. So, you may check the fuses that connect to starters. Because wiring problem is one of the most common reasons to cause start-up problem in the starter. Because sometimes wires problems is not easy to be found by people, since it often comes undone and is pushed freely back into place by people during the process of repairs. Knowing the placement of each wire is also important for riders. It can ensure all the wires to connect with the corresponding terminals in the starter. If one wire appears problem, it will influence the motorcycle start-up performance.
