Methods to Paint a Motorcycle

Do you have the thought that you paint your motorcycle by yourself? After all, it is an interesting job and can make your bike have a new look if you want a brand new motorcycle. Don’t worry about you don’t know how to do. Now we will tell you the methods step by step.  

Step 1, choosing an area where you can do painting job is a big problem.

Of course, for most of people, it seems that a garage or storage area is the best area you start to work. There you don’t worry about to make a mess and paint stain problem.

Step 2, take some big plastic sheets to protect the walls.

If you don’t, you may go to shop to buy some. It will help you to save lots of time to clean the walls after finishing job. How to hang them? You may use some tools such as thumbtacks, hammer and nails to hang the sheets on the walls and use masking tape to stick the sheets on the floor. In this way, the walls and floors will be protected even if the painting splash out.

Step 3, preparing your motorcycle

Firstly, remove different motorbike parts such as large motorcycle body cover, motorcycle gas tank, motorcycle front wheel etc. your want to paint and set them aside. Here we take oil tank cover as instance. And then sand down the surface of the parts. It will take some time to do these jobs, but it is important. We know if the surface of parts you will paint is not smooth, and the painting coated on motorcycle tank cover will be uneven and ugly. I think no one wants that, and everyone wants a beautiful new motorcycle with fashionable motorbike helmet. For sandpaper, it is easy to get from any shops. Next, wipe down the surface that newly sanded and remove the dirty things such as small particles and dust to keep the surface clean.

Secondly, smooth a layer of filler on the surface of car body, and sand the surface again once the filler dry. During this period, you need to wait around one or two hours to make sure that the surface of car body completely dry before a second sanding. When the surface of car body is smooth, you may continue to next step.

Step 4, paint your bike.

Firstly, paint two coats of epoxy primer for your motorcycle oil tank cover to prevent unwanted effects such as rusting, moisture etc. Of course, about detailed coating ways, you also refer to the instruction of coating material. After mixing the primer with the hardener, pour them into the tank of spray gun. And then paint one coat evenly on the motorcycle body case to make it dry, and repeat this step. After the second coat dry, you may sand down the surface slightly in a 2000 grit wet and dry paper to make it smoother. Next, wipe the surface with a rag lightly. Now clean the spray gun to avoid painting just used mixing with others. In this way, paint different coatings three or four times until the smooth surface makes you satisfied.
