How to Find a Suitable Brake Disc?

The motorcycle brake system is the most important protective barrier for our riding. It shoulders the responsibility of protecting the safety of drivers. The brake system is like the power of a vehicle, and it is divided into three or six or nine grades. However, the capacity and effect of the braking system seem to be far less important than the power of the vehicle in people's minds.

Motorcycle disc brakes are one of the most important bicycle systems. The normal operation of the braking system allows you to operate the motorcycle safely and efficiently.

Classification of Motorcycle Brake Systems

The brake is a device that slows down or stops a motorcycle. There are two commonly used ones, one is called disc brake and the other is drum brake.

The principle of both is the same. Both use friction to generate braking force. This kind of brake is called friction brake.

Disc brakes are timely and not easy to age. The brakes are not easy to die suddenly. But it is not easy to brake for a long time, and it is easy to brake failure.

The characteristic of drum brakes is that braking will not cause brake failure for a long time, but over time, the tires are prone to sudden death.

Most motorcycles are disc brakes. The working principle of the disc brake system is to install a disc that rotates synchronously with the wheel on the hub, and install a motorcycle front brake caliper on the front fork and the frame, and then clamp the disc through the brake block in the caliper to achieve the purpose of braking.

Parts of Motorcycle Disc Brake System

Most motorcycle disc brake systems rely on four main components, namely brake pads, rotors (also called discs or disks), calipers and hydraulic brake fluid lines.

The working principle of the motorcycle disc brake system is as follows.

When the brake pads grab each side of the steel rotor connected to the wheel, the disc brake will work. Each caliper contains four or six hydraulic pistons. These hydraulic pistons force the brake pads on both sides of the rotor to slow down or stop it completely. A motorcycle has two rotors on the front wheel and only one on the rear wheel.

Disc brakes can brake quickly during high-speed braking, and the heat dissipation effect is better than drum brakes. The constancy of braking performance is good, and it is convenient to install advanced electronic equipment like ABS.

Metal blocks (discs) are used instead of drums, and there are flat brake shoes on both sides of the brake disc. When the hydraulic pressure from the brake master cylinder is sent to the sub-cylinder, the brake shoe is clamped to the brake disc to achieve the effect of braking. Nowadays, it is widely used on the front wheel drive motorcycles, and some better motorcycles are also equipped with disc brakes on the motorcycle rear wheels.

Nowadays, motorcycle disc brake systems require almost no maintenance. However, it is necessary to regularly inspect and possibly replace or repair individual components.

Before replacing the suitable brake disc, the original equipment of the motorcycle should be used as a reference.
