How to Effectively Install Motorcycle Brake Calipers?

A good motorcycle brake caliper will reasonably allocate the size and number of pistons, so we cannot ignore the product performance when selecting. The brake system is an important part related to personal safety in motorcycle driving. Many people slowly began to notice the importance of the brake system upgrade. The under-brake pump (also known as the caliper) is the core of the system, so more and more players are modifying the caliper.

Brake Modification

The lack of the original brake system will make the driver feel that the braking force is not obvious by pressing the brake lever, the braking distance is longer, and the vehicle stability becomes weaker when braking. Then the brake system must be upgraded.

Now more and more people are refitting brakes, which is a good trend. It shows that riders have been able to realize the weakness of the original brake force and modify the brake system to improve the braking and increase the safety and stability of driving.

Many riders modify the brakes as simple as just replacing a caliper. This is not true for retrofitting brakes, because the caliper is only part of the brake as a system.

So the correct brake modification, first need to replace a suitable upper pump to drive the entire brake system, and then use a steel bell to connect the upper pump and the caliper. The modified steel roar (brake tubing) has better anti-expansion properties, combined with high-quality brake fluid, so that it can reduce brake attenuation at high temperatures.

Then there is the two-way multi-piston caliper, with a large-diameter porous floating disc, which not only helps the heat dissipation of the brake disc, but also plays a great role in the stability of the brake. Finally, we must not forget to replace high-performance brake pads. Good brake pads can better face the brake load and accelerate heat dissipation.

Install Motorcycle Brake Calipers

Installing new motorcycle brake calipers and motorcycle brake pads is a relatively straightforward task. But if you are not familiar with the structure and anatomy of a motorcycle, be sure to follow the instructions below. Correct maintenance and repair of the brake system is a very important part of a motorcycle.

1. Safety

When replacing the motorcycle rear brake caliper, prepare some necessary tools, such as jacks, split pins, needle-nose pliers, triple clamp fork, etc. First use a jack to push the rear wheel of the motorcycle. Then remove the rear wheel, fix the split pin on the lock nut, and pry it out with a pair of needle-nose pliers to loosen the lock nut.

2. Retainer

Use needle-nose pliers to remove the spring retainer of the brake pad. The fixing clip is flush with the rod connected to the brake caliper by a split pin. Take care to put small objects including screws into a paper case.

3. Pins

Pass the pin after removing the retaining clip. Be careful not to damage the brake spring. At this time, slide the brake pads out.

4. Mounting Plate

Remove it from the mounting plate, and hook the mounting plate up and on the axle of the motorcycle to contact the brake caliper.

5. Washers

After removing the mounting bracket, remove the cross washer. There is a bolt at the top and a bolt at the bottom. If there is debris or dust on the surface of the cross washer, use a suitable solution to remove it.

6. Remove the old calipers

There are two pistons inside the body of the caliper. Inspect any seals for signs of tearing or wear. If you see any signs of brake fluid leakage, buy a caliper repair kit.

7. Install new calipers

When the piston is pulled out to clean, you cannot install new brake pads. Put one or two pistons back into the caliper at a time. This prevents them from pushing out of each other due to pressure. When installing the new caliper, install the bolts and fixing clips in the same way as the old caliper. If the brake pads are not fixed with bolts, you must pay special attention to their corresponding positions with the calipers. When installing the calipers, you must reconfirm whether the brake pads are in the correct position. The new brake pads can be closely attached to the disc.

After installing the new brake calipers, deflate the brake system and fill up the brake fluid reservoir.
